Data Select (the mobile distribution company owned by Peter Jones of TV's Dragons' Den fame) has launched Accode, a new security service that utilises the convenience of the mobile phone to pre-authenticate users accessing their corporate network or portals. The service uses a dedicated security application on customers' mobile handsets to deliver a ‘one time passcode', removing the requirement for inconvenient and expensive hardware tokens and dongles. The launch brings together Mobile Managed Services, the mobile solution division of Data Select and Monitise Group, the global mobile commerce experts, best known for their mobile banking and payments networks in the UK and North America.
Accode delivers on the potential of the mobile handset as a security tool to help organisations to operate more effectively. It is based on the secure technology used in Monitise's award winning mobile banking service, MONILINK, and removes the dependence on insecure fixed passcodes or expensive token based security systems when authenticating access to corporate networks or portals. User trials have confirmed that Accode reduces cost of ownership by 50%, plus being fully managed by Mobile Managed Services it ensures that there is a further reduction in administration efforts.
Accode uses secure algorithms to generate a one time passcode that can be used to secure access to desktop and online services. The service is always available through both ‘online and ‘offline' capability, allowing the service to work even in areas with no network coverage. Crucially for organisations with a large remote workforce, the service can be provisioned ‘over the air' in seconds and can also be customised with the customer's brand, to keep it consistent with existing network tools.
Andy Tow, Managing Director Mobile Managed Services said: "Security is of paramount importance to many of our customers. However, with mobile working a critical business need, VPN or portal access is essential to the success of their businesses.
"Accode allows our customers to offer regulated VPN or portal access without compromising on either security or convenience. It meets the high security standards demanded by our customers and by delivering the service on their existing mobile phones it removes the need for additional spend on hardware."
Alastair Lukies, Chief Executive, Monitise Group added: "Mobile data technology has delivered massive business advantages over the past few years, allowing workers, suppliers and consultants to access central resources no matter where they are. However, as the usage of such systems has increased, the threats have increased alongside it. With the mobile handset absolutely central to the working lives of most people today, the addition of information security tools makes perfect sense."
